What PTIRU Approval Means for Students at Vancouver Churchill College

When you see “PTIRU Approved” next to a program at Vancouver Churchill College, what does it actually mean — and why should it matter to you as a student?

PTIRU stands for the Private Training Institutions Regulatory Unit, part of the BC Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills. PTIRU regulates private career training in British Columbia and approves programs that meet the province’s standards for curriculum, instruction, student protection, and accountability.

What this means for you:

  • Recognized credentials — your certificate or diploma is issued by a government-approved institution and is recognized by BC employers
  • StudentAid BC eligibility — only approved programs at designated institutions are eligible for BC government grants and loans
  • Student protection — your tuition is protected by PTIRU’s tuition assurance fund
  • Quality standards — instructors, curriculum, and facilities are reviewed against provincial benchmarks

VCC programs that are PTIRU-approved:

  • Home Support Worker Training
  • Caregiver Training
  • Business Administration Diploma
  • Hospitality Management Diploma
  • ESL Upgrading and Exam Preparation

Our other career-focused programs — including ECEA (Early Childhood Education Assistant), Support Worker Foundations, Healthcare English, and short ESL courses — are designed to meet the requirements of relevant BC registries and regulatory bodies (such as the BC ECE Registry for ECEA).

You can verify VCC’s PTIRU registration anytime at the PTIRU directory.
